WFRV reports…

“Beneath the chants of people rallying for health care reform in Green Bay, were the voices of protestors.Yet most of the 400-plus people at UW-Green Bay on Wednesday, told Congressman Steve Kagen he has their support.” Source: Kagen holds ‘less heated’ session at UWGB – WFRV Green Bay: Northeast Wisconsin News, Weather and Sports

Yet WBAY has a different take…

“Hundreds of people packed a UW-Green Bay building for what was supposed to be a pro-health care reform rally with Congressman Steve Kagen. But many came to voice disapproval of the legislation, and emotions ran high at a rally drawing cheers and boos.Groups of protesters lined up outside UWGB’s student union at least an hour before the health care rally even began.

The protests remained peaceful outside but set the stage for what became at times a heated debate inside.

More than 400 people packed the student union — so many that organizers had to expand the room to let everyone in.” Source: Health Care Reform Rally Turns Into Noisy Debate – WBAY-TV Green Bay-Fox Cities-Northeast Wisconsin News:

Here are the logistics…

“Five shuttles will be provided for people parking at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay to attend President Barack Obama’s town hall-style meeting Thursday at nearby Green Bay Southwest High School.

Ticketed guests can park at two lots on the NWTC campus starting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Green Bay School District.

Parking lots D and E on NWTC’s Green Bay campus, 2740 W. Mason St., have been designated for shuttle service, said Casey Fryda, a college spokesman. Those lots are accessible off Country Club Road.

Shuttles will run continuously from 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and transport guests back to NWTC after the event is over. At least one of the shuttles will be wheelchair accessible.
People will be going through a security screening before getting on the shuttles and will not be allowed into the parking lots early. They also will have to show their tickets before boarding the bus and at Southwest High School.

Parking is limited at the high school to the north lot, which has about 375 spots, Southwest Principal Bryan Davis said. These spots will be used for disabled or elderly parking needs and will not be available until 7:30 a.m.

Attendees have been encouraged to carpool or use the shuttle service.” Source: Security for Obama visit could top $30,000 | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

President Obama, healthcare and Green Bay…

Local blogger Steve Prestegaard takes up the issue here…

“In the 80s and 90s, Green Bay was the Center of the Health Insurance Universe. Back in the Day, we led the World in designing, selling and servicing some very, very innovative health insurance benefit plans for small business owners and their employees. The proof of our success was in ALL the Sales we made – we drove the competition absolutely crazy.

Not only were our plans good, they were priced right! It takes 3 things to sell health insurance: Rates. Rates. Rates… We were a low-cost provider with OUTstanding customer service and lots of BIG ideas! We set the bar VERY high from lil old Green Bay.

Thousands, and thousands became employed – and trained – in a highly technical industry; and there were countless spin offs, mergers, vendors and health-related wannabee businesses taking root on the Tundra, too. Agents and customers from around the country constantly flew in to see what all the fuss was about. About 100% of the time they’d go home totally impressed with our knowledge, our craftsmanship and our work ethic.” Source: Marketplace of Ideas Blog – An open health care letter to President Obama

Steve goes on to say…

“Five years ago, my company was leading a huge initiative for UnitedHealthcare. We hosted a series of Town Hall-type meetings with: “The Primary Healthcare Decision Maker in Your Household.” And just like the President, we launched our initiative in Green Bay. (We eventually moved beyond the Tundra to other towns and halls.)

Guess what The Number ONE Healthcare Issue is for The Primary Healthcare Decision Maker? “Well, DUH!,” one said, “The Cost!”

It didn’t take a Town Hall Meeting to discover THAT! It’s always about the Money, isn’t it?” Source: Marketplace of Ideas Blog – An open health care letter to President Obama

Maybe President Obama doesn’t need to spend the money to come all the way to Green Bay?! He could just read Steve’s blog on that BlackBerry of his…

The Obama apology tour goes on the road to Green Bay…

LOL. Here’s Lance Burri’s take on President Obama’s visit…

“Even before President Obama was back on U.S. soil, conservative mockery of his “apology tour” had already begun.

And not entirely without reason. Egypt, Turkey, France, Prague, London; Asia, Europe, South America: everywhere he goes, he seems eager to agree that the U.S. is a big jerk, world-history-wise.

Well, the Chicago boy will be in Green Bay on Thursday, or so I hear. And I’ve got a few issues of my own. Opportunities, let’s say, for him to bring his Apology Tour to our own shores.

Maybe he wants to apologize for the 1980s. You know, when the Chicago Bears were an NFL power, and the Green Bay Packers…well…weren’t? So arrogant were the 1985 Bears that they put a 350-pound defensive tackle in at running back, and even at receiver.

All the better to humiliate their opponents.” Source: FoxPolitics.net – Appleton, WI News – What’s really going on in the Fox Cities

The hottest story in the conservative blogosphere this week…

…is the story of a two men; one is the President of the United States, the other a radio talk show host from Green Bay, WI — the former is a socialist from Chicago spending money faster than the government can borrow or print it. The latter? A modern day Thomas Paine from Green Bay doing what he can with the tools he has. Chicago vs. Green Bay — the oldest rivalry in the books and the story plays itself out here: The Party of Know.
